In Studio – Between Fragment and Form
IN STUDIO is an exhibition born from the immediacy of making—an environment where ideas are tested, fragments are formed, and the language of painting and sculpture is constantly reimagined. This body of work reflects the energy of experimentation that unfolds in the artist’s studio: an eclectic mix of portraits and sculptural fragments.

Alongside the paintings are sculptures that take the form of fragments—an eye, nose, mouth, and ear—drawn from the tradition of clay studies in the studio. These works suggest both the discipline of practice and incompleteness.
Rather than presenting final resolutions, these works are glimpses into a process. IN STUDIO invites the viewer to step inside the atmosphere of experimentation, where ideas overlap, collide, and transform. It is a celebration of the act of making—of allowing the studio to be not only a site of production, but also a subject in itself.
In Studio runs from 12 to 27 November at Everard Read’s CIRCA Gallery in Cape Town. For more information about the exhibition, contact Faith Shields at faith@everard.co.za.
Everard Read | CIRCA, Cape Town
Always dynamic, the gallery strives to maximise the exposure and dissemination of fine contemporary painting and sculpture to a broad audience. An important contributor to the already vibrant cultural life of South Africa, Everard Read/CIRCA maintains a strong and unique identity for itself. A programme of both solo and group exhibitions is often accompanied by publications serving to showcase established contemporary artists as well as the emerging younger generations. Whilst artists from the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan and the USA are exhibited, the gallery retains at its core an impressive stable of South African artists.
A close dialogue between all of the Everard Read and CIRCA spaces ensures that the galleries have even further access to the finest paintings, sculptures and new media works from abroad and around the sub-continent. We concurrently interface with international galleries and participate in both national and international art fairs.
