Shift: Tracing Quiet Transformations
Shift captures Lionel Smit’s journey as an artist, navigating the quiet transformations that have redefined his creative process. This exhibition marks a departure from the bold, sweeping gestures of his earlier work, embracing instead the precision of smaller brushstrokes.
Intimate, small-scale figurative sculptures reflect this shift—moving from large, fragmented forms to more delicate and subtle expressions that demand both precision and introspection. Drawing from early influences, some of the works evoke the techniques of Van Gogh, the early explorations of Picasso, and the refined sculptural sensibilities of Michelangelo. Each mark and form in Shift represents a personal evolution—a move toward nuance, where even the smallest detail carries the weight of change.
Shift runs from 3 May to 4 June 2025 at Knysna Fine Art. For more information about the exhibition, contact Corlie de Kock at corlie@finearts.co.za.
